Welcome to the Entropia Universe Beginner's Guide! This is where you as a newcomer - or a veteran in need of refreshing your memory - can learn your way around the user interface and catch up on the fundmental game mechanics of Entropia Universe.
Now, let's get down to business! Pick a topic below to learn more about Entropia Universe.
2015 was a great year for MindArk and
Entropia Universe, and we would like to thank you for your participation
and support of Entropia Universe this past year!
MindArk continues to expand and invest
in its core product, Entropia Universe, along with initiating exciting
new gaming experiences, for example ComPet.
As promised in our 2015 State of the Universe Address,
MindArk invested considerable resources in improving the infrastructure
of the Entropia Universe platform, enabling MindArk and its partners to
provide ever more entertaining and immersive gameplay experiences.
Those investments have delivered
valuable and promising returns. Entropia Universe client crashes have
been reduced by half since 2014, and overall client stability is vastly
improved, based on feedback via support channels.
The number of new accounts in 2015 was
50% higher than in 2014, a strong indicator that our marketing efforts
in 2015 were well-targeted and effective. In-game economic activity grew
by 10%, evidence of a vibrant virtual economy with a healthy rate of
Many of the development projects and
tasks planned for 2015 and presented in last year’s State of the
Universe Address were finalized and released, while several others are
still in development and slated for release in 2016.
Planet Calyps Land Plots
One project highlighted in last year’s
State of the Universe Address which we are very excited about is the
Citizenship system, whose early foundations were released during 2015.
The Citizenship system is one that will ultimately be available to all
Planet Partners, who will work together with MindArk to develop the
system further and add innovative features and content. The first cities
with land plots were released on Planet Calypso last summer, and the response from Calypso Land Deed holders was extremely positive, with all plots being claimed very quickly.
The Harvesting system introduced
alongside the CLD land plots in Version Update 15.3 added a fun and
flexible new system for beginners and veterans alike, and will continue
to be expanded in upcoming Version Updates, including integration with
the land plot estate system.
The long-awaited Taming system
received lots of attention in 2015, including new buffs, pets, and
interfaces to make pets an integral part of everyday Entropia life.
Further expansion of the Taming system will continue in 2016, including
potential tie-ins with the upcoming ComPet project detailed below.
Classified Strongboxes were
one of the most exciting new additions of 2015, primarily due to the
new equippable rings that provide powerful buffs when equipped found
exclusively in the Strongboxes. To accommodate all the new avatar buffs
available from rings, pets and other sources, a comprehensive buff
stacking and buff icon display system was implemented in the Entropia
While Entropia Universe’s traditional
appeal for many participants is that of an open-world sci-fi-themed
sandbox, MindArk and the Planet Partners have also developed content for
participants who enjoy a more objective-based and directed gameplay
experience. In that direction, MindArk unveiled a universe-wide epic
mission chain called Mission Galactica in June 2015. Mission Galactica
offers excitement and challenges for participants of all levels, and
will continue to be expanded in upcoming Version Updates.
New Player Experience
The efforts made by MindArk and the
Planet Partners in 2015 to improve the experience for new participants
have been quite successful, and have helped to improve conversion rates,
grow the active player base, and maximize marketing opportunities.
Usability and gameplay improvements have been made to the new
participant start room, as well as to the Thule tutorial area on Planet
Additionally, a system of community
volunteers, known as the Calypso Advisers, was launched on Planet
Calypso to help guide new participants. The Rookie channel is also a
great resource for new participants to receive tips from more
experienced Entropians, and we appreciate the generous support our
community members offer to new participants in-game and on community
Conversion and player retention is an
important part of MindArk’s long term growth strategy, and as such the
new player experience will continue to receive attention during 2016 by
the Planet Calypso team and our Planet Partners.
Entropia Universe Platform
The improvements to the Entropia
Universe infrastructure that began in 2014 continued throughout 2015.
Here is a quick review of some of the more significant improvements
achieved in 2015:
Overhauled client installation and update system, Windows 8 & 10 compatible.Client crashes reduced by 70%.Significant improvements to server performance and capacity.Enhanced mission features available to content designers.Improved tutorial messaging.Modernization of several client user interfaces.Overhauled login interface
These improvements have resulted
in the Entropia Universe platform being more efficient, reliable, and
responsive than ever before, and ultimately enable our team and partners
to offer higher quality and engaging content with less downtime for our
Arkadia Studios continued its track
record of producing high-quality, unique content for Planet Arkadia.
Arkadia’s reputation for engaging gameplay, along with strong marketing
campaigns in cooperation with MindArk have resulted in a steadily
growing base of active participants on Planet Arkadia. MindArk will
continue to work together closely with Arkadia Studios in 2016 both on
the development and marketing fronts to continue this growth trend.
Development of the unique and popular
Rocktropia destination during 2015 was largely focused on streamlining
and improving existing content, especially content geared toward new
participants. Great strides were made in those areas, with the result
that the overall gameplay experience and conversion rates for new
participants on Rocktropia are vastly improved.
Development of Planet Cyrene also saw a
strong focus on content for new participants during 2015, with an eye
toward its long-awaited full launch in 2016.
The newest Entropia Universe planet,
Toulan, saw respectable progress in terms of uniquely-themed content
during 2015. MindArk will continue to work closely with the Beladcom
team to move closer to a full launch of Planet Toulan.
Entropia Universe Systems
As mentioned above, the Citizenship
and Housing systems will be a major development focus for MindArk in the
early part of 2016. The upcoming Version Updates will include some
exciting new content for those systems.
We are also adding new tools to enable
our content producers and Planet Partners to create and run more
dynamic and exciting storyline events.
Also, the popular Taming and Avatar Buff systems will continue to be expanded in upcoming releases.
Later in the year, we will turn our
primary focus to the development of content and systems for space. Some
of the space projects on our radar include:
Galactic transport & space missions.
Space vessels - improved balance, modules, upgrades and new ship classes.
PVE space content, including new space creatures.
Improved PVP space gameplay and balance.
MindArk is developing a new two-factor
authentication system that will gradually replace the Gold Card
Security System currently in use. This new system will be released as an
app for popular mobile platforms for all Entropia Universe
One of the more exciting projects
undertaken by MindArk in recent years is ComPet, a mobile pet combat
game. A unique aspect of ComPet’s development is the crowdfunding
opportunity available via ComPet Deeds. For full details on ComPet
Deeds, please visit the official ComPet website: http://www.competgame.com.
Development of ComPet is progressing
nicely, and has now entered the balancing and tuning phase. The current
launch target for ComPet is May 10, 2016, and we look forward to
inviting ComPet Deed holders into a closed beta testing period within
the next few weeks.
Once again, thank you all for making
Entropia Universe a fantastic experience. I want you to know that
MindArk is committed to deliver on its promises, and to make Entropia
Universe the most exciting and rewarding real-cash economy gaming
experience available. In 2016 we will continue to expand Entropia with
engaging content and deliver a deeper and more rewarding Universe for
existing and new participants to enjoy and explore.

TAKING PART IN DEVELOPMENT PLANET PARTNERS
MindArk's vision is to expand the virtual universe and be the global leader and pioneer within the 3D Internet. MindArk is looking for Planet Partners that want to be a part of the continuous expansion of Entropia Universe by implementing their unique concepts, businesses and ideas into new unique planets.
The model for realizing this vision is based on a commercial collaboration between MindArk and its Planet Partners. Both parties bring their own expertise to the table, MindArk in technology and operations of virtual worlds, the Planet Partner in game concepts and content, marketing and business operations. Since 1999 MindArk has invested over 60 million USD to develop Entropia Universe. MindArk now offers Planet Partners to be a part of this and use our technology in building and maintaining entirely new planets in Entropia Universe. There is no text book definition of a Planet Partner company. However, to successfully create and maintain a planet, a Planet Partner should have a long-term perspective and a secure and stable economy for development, marketing, personnel and planet operations. Naturally, access to a previously established IP is beneficial. For more information about the Planet Partner model and the Entropia Platform, visit www.entropiaplatform.com.
One of the most common ways to sell unneeded items or to upgrade your equipment is to put it in the public autions. The auction contians literaly thousands of items, being sold to the highest bidder. There are auction houses in all major cities, and most of the Amethera TPs have Service Centres. The auction system works as a standard English Auction. There is an inital seller fee of .50 PEC, which increases as you set a higher start bid. After VU 8 there is a transport fee for transporting remotely bidded auctions (Bidding on an item at Club Neverdie from an auction on Calypso will cost you PED to trasnport the item up, and vise versa. If the auction winner wishes, they may move to where the auction was located to avoid the fee.)
The advantages of the auction system are: All offers are centralised and displayed on categories, offers can be evaluated and anybody can bid on the items as long as they have the cash. Winner’s Curse and Bid Wars are present in the PE Auction House. There is a time extension of up to 5 minutes on ending auctions if another bid is put in place, in order to allow bidders to be notified of the new bid. There is also a buyout feature present for accepting the maximum price set by the seller and obtaining the item immediately without having to wait till the auction expires. If desired, a player may place an order, in which he/she specifies an amount of an item and cost for a set number of days. If a seller sets up an auction within the specified parameters of the order, it is bought immeditaly, even if the buying avatar isnt online. This is most commonly done with ores and ematter. The disadvantages of the auction system are: All prices are slightly inflated to cover for the auction fee of 50 PEC. If the seller wants to set a higher starting price they may have to pay even more (up to 100 PED). If the item(s) sell, the fee is charged once again to the final price. It is also possible to loose PED on a sale if the final bid does not cover the TT price and the auction fee. This usually happens with cheap items such as low level armor and weapons. There are different behaviours on the auctions for different items. Being a buyer’s market (only buyers take active interest in trade) prices can sometimes be higher on larger quantities. On smaller quantities valued up to 20-30 PED, the prices are very unstable. Some resources sell for lower prices if in higher quantities, mostly because most bidders can only afford to buy up to a certain amount of resources. You get what you paid for, receiving the whole quantity of the seller’s goods even if you wanted to buy just a small amount. Equipment is sold as unitary lots, unlike stackable resources. There are unfair practices such as bidding on every cheap item, TT valued bids, inflation practices, usually by buying items one does not need, increase the price, then sell at the artificially created price the gathered items. The markup on crafted items is always smaller than equally valued items that are looted. This is because crafting balances hunting and mining, and usually crafted items are of lower quality or durability than looted items. Always, the higher the value of an item, the higher the markup will be especially if it is efficient in several areas (all-around protection armors, efficient fast-damaging durable weapons). All prices in the EU economy and at the Auction House are self-regulating and self-balancing. The price of an item closely adapts to the supply and demand from players. Player-imposed inflation is thus very hard to perform if there is no demand due to the auction fee, preventing people to fix the price on an item. Very few instances exist where an item is monopolised by one player, thereby allowing this player to fix the price. Until mid 2005, there was only one crafter with a Fi/Ra/Co Dante blueprint. At the time, the 1000 PEDs (100 USD) fixed markup was widely accepted by players that could afford the price. Later, another player looted the Fi/Ra/Co Dante blueprint, but as real world economies go, this new crafter was not obligated to drastically reduce the markup.
Lisk Nano 1.1.0 — Rewritten in React for Improved Performance
We are happy to announce the release of version 1.1.0
of our desktop client, Lisk Nano. The main goal of this release was to
completely rewrite the application into React, a modern front-end
framework. React puts Nano in a better position in terms of performance,
testability, and ease of development.
the previously used framework AngularJS, we were hitting performance
limits. An example of this being the table of delegates in the Voting
tab. Users are able to load more delegates by scrolling down the table,
but with 1000+ delegates on the main net, the app started responding
slowly. After the migration, this table is now optimized and capable of
flawlessly listing thousands of delegates.
started to use Redux for state management of the application. An
important part of the state of the application is data that is not yet
stored on the blockchain, like pending transactions or delegates
selected for voting. Redux allows us to easily preserve this data
regardless of where the user goes in the application. Specifically, it
means that users can select some delegates for voting, then navigate
through the application and finally come back to voting, with the
selected delegates still there.
Development with future releases in mind
as a modern component-based front-end framework, clearly structured the
source code into small presentable components and separated business
logic in Redux store. It puts us in a great position to add countless
new features in the future, whilst maintaining a well-structured and
stringently-tested code-base. Ultimately, this release leads to higher
productivity of development, so you can get new features sooner.
of new features, we are already developing Nano 1.2. Our next version
will introduce a seamless way to share a list of delegates for voting.
Furthermore, being as inclusive as possible is at the heart of Lisk,
which is why we’re also working to support additional languages beyond
English, for our worldwide community. Last but not least, we’re
developing an optional feature which will save you from having to type
in your passphrase if you’re just opening Lisk Nano to do something that
doesn’t require security measures, like checking incoming transactions.
We are all very excited to share these features with you in the next
Stanislav is a front-end developer for Lisk at Lightcurve and the
project lead of Lisk Nano. Previously, he was developing web-based tools
for Red Hat. He has plenty of additional front-end experience from
developing online learning systems as a member of Adaptive Learning
research group at Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic. He is
committed to making Lisk the crypto with the best user experience.
