  • The Syscoin 3.0 Upgrade Process Begins!

As announced at our official Syscoin Meetup and as stated in our last blog post, the Syscoin 3.0 upgrade process will begin taking place at exactly block number 683412.

We had previously estimated that block number 683412 would take place on April 30th, 2018, however, due to the recent increasing difficulty of the Syscoin network and longer-than-expected block times (currently averaging over 62.7seconds), the snapshot is now estimated to occur on May 1st, 2018.

We will be taking a snapshot of Syscoin 2.x at block number 683412 and will be running scripts to copy all offers, balances and aliases over which will take a few hours to run.   The exchanges will then need to audit the Syscoin 3.0 code, run their own scripts and verify that all balances are exactly the same as the 2.x chain and to verify the Syscoin 3.0 code.

The process for the Syscoin 3.0 upgrade will take time. Some exchanges have already begun the preparation for the Syscoin 3.0 fork and we have received confirmation from the most prominent ones. As the processes are different for most exchanges and many are located in different time-zones throughout the world(IE: Chinese Labor Day holiday between April 30th to May 1st), we cannot confirm how long it will take exchanges to resume trading and/or upgrade their wallets.

We are in contact with all exchanges, services & miners that publicly trade and support Syscoin. Bittrex, UpBit and Flyp.me have published their support for the Syscoin 3.0 upgrade, Poloniex has already disabled wallets and all others should be disabling their wallets before block number 683412 (and possibly halting trades).

UPbit confirms Syscoin 3.0 Upgrade Support Flyp.me informs their community that Syscoin will be temporarily offline until the Syscoin 3.0 Upgrade

Backup process: How do I upgrade to Syscoin 3.0?

The backup process is the same as for any upgrade. Just make sure you save your wallet.dat somewhere safe (we suggest you back it up in different locations such as more than one flash drive to ensure you have several backups at different locations).

How to find your wallet.dat on Blockmarket Desktop or Syscoin-qt:

On Windows: 1) Go to your C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Syscoin\ folder and find the file called wallet.dat

    2) Copy this to a flash drive or a private cloud account

On Mac: 1) Go to your /Users/[USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/Syscoin/ folder and find the file called wallet.dat

    2) Copy this to a flash drive or a private cloud account

If your wallet is encrypted(password-protected), be sure to write down the passphrase and keep it in a separate location from the flash drive. You may make as many backups as you feel is necessary.

How to Backup Your Private Keys

Backing up your private keys is also recommended, however your wallet may contain multiple addresses. Be sure to backup all addresses with balances using this guide.

My coins are already on an exchange

If you are keeping your Syscoin on a cryptocurrency trading exchange, the exchanges should all eventually be upgrading to Syscoin 3.0. Your Syscoin 2.x balance should convert over to Syscoin 3.0 when they have finalized their end of the wallet upgrade.

  • Syscoin Indexing Service

Syscoin 3.0: The New Blockchain Application Development Platform for Leaders, Inventors, and Innovators.

With the launch of Syscoin 3.0 we are thrilled to introduce a suite of new tools for creating custom blockchain applications. These tools provide: Flexibility, scalability, signing and identity capabilities, minimized blockchain bloat, smaller application footprints, and provide additional functionality alongside the Syscoin Core that can be used on custom projects and applications with cross-platform blockchain security. Functions that bloat or slow down the blockchain have been abstracted from the core as optional libraries to allow for separation of concerns and parallel execution — all hashed and anchored to the blockchain. By providing these types of tools we can build a larger and more robust ecosystem around Syscoin and its services.

    Indexing Service

Syscoin Indexing Service is a system designed to provide a fast, powerful search and data extraction experience. It speeds up and enhances searches by syncing data from the blockchain and other sources, indexing it in a local database. As the blockchain core process receives blocks from the network, the indexer listens for messages that are emitted from the core. It picks up those messages and writes details to the indexer database; by running the Indexer as a background service, you can search quickly, filter data and conduct transformations on that data.

Syscoin Indexing Service uses three parts: Syscoin Indexer, Syscoin Indexer API and Syscoin Indexer DB.

Syscoin Indexing Service uses three parts: Syscoin Indexer, Syscoin Indexer API and Syscoin Indexer DB.

With Syscoin Indexer, you can customize the deployment to index the data on the decentralized application(dApp) that you are building, index information from blockchain, and pull information from other data sources. You can then put it in a datastore that is more in-line with your application and transform it to suit your project. This allows you to define your own schemas based on the data you want to index as well as choose the type of database you want to use, such as Mongo, SQL, SQLite, or other databases.

    Indexing Service for Blockmarket

By re-using the Syscoin Indexing Service libraries on both Blockmarket Desktop and Blockmarket Web, we have improved the user experience drastically on both projects with a single code-base. The speed has increased and you are now able to add filters to searches based on title, alias, name, description, price, geo-location or other criteria across multiple data sources. By running the indexer for Blockmarket Web on distributed host servers we can guarantee 99% up-time and DDOS prevention for index-based searches.

  • Syscoin Encrypted Messaging Service

Syscoin 3.0: The New Blockchain Application Development Platform for Leaders, Inventors, and Innovators.

We are happy to introduce a suite of new tools for creating custom blockchain applications with Syscoin 3.0. These provide flexibility, scalability, minimize blockchain bloat, and allow for smaller application footprints. These tools enable additional functionality alongside the Syscoin Core and can be used on custom projects and applications with cross-platform blockchain security, signing, and identity capabilities. Functions that bloat or slow down the blockchain have been abstracted from the core as optional libraries to allow for separation of concerns and parallel execution — all hashed and anchored to the blockchain. By providing these types of tools we can build a larger and more robust ecosystem around Syscoin and its services.

    Syscoin Encrypted Messaging Service

Syscoin’s encrypted messaging system is designed to create a secure and unbreakable messaging platform that is anchored to the blockchain. Messages require a transaction fee for each message, and can be stored free for an arbitrary length of time, or permanently for an additional fee. Optional ephemeral messaging can increase security if keys or end-points are ever compromised; messages can be removed after an arbitrary length of time, and cannot be mined for data by nefarious parties if they no longer exist. Messages are encrypted using blockchain authentication and use an asymmetrical ECEIS public/private key scheme, secured by an identity system. Message size and rate can be limited to prevent spamming and DDOS attacks.

    Off-Chain Encrypted Messaging

    Encrypted Messaging for Blockmarket

Using Syscoin’s encrypted messaging system will offer a much faster, cheaper and richer messaging experience within Blockmarket. Messages are now instant and indicate if a message is read or unread, with increased usability, better user experience, and more capabilities. Messages are encrypted to your public/private key, hashed and stored in a distributed cloud service provided by Blockchain Foundry and anchored to the Syscoin blockchain.

    Syscoin Encrypted Messaging

    Future Capabilities

In the coming months of development we plan to add additional functionality to Syscoin encrypted messaging service. With the new messaging system it is now possible to implement optional email notifications for specific events on Blockmarket such as notification of a sale or an escrow request. We may also add image support, enhanced (HTML) messages, attachments, export messages to a file for safekeeping, and even support direct phone calls and text messages.

In the initial Syscoin 3.0 release, messages will be stored for free for 30 days but we will be implementing an optional fee to save messages for longer than 30 days in later updates.

  • Syscoin 3.0 Whitepaper Summary

A whitepaper is a report that describes possible and existing features and concepts of a project that are often difficult for most to understand. Historically the Syscoin whitepapers have been so complex that many developers find them a heavy read. A few days ago, we released the Syscoin 3.0 Whitepaper. Although it was appreciated by many technically-minded individuals, we are aware that not everyone is willing to read an in-depth technical document.

One of our missions is to make the Syscoin platform’s features and possibilities understandable to all. Thus, we’ve decided to provide the same user-friendly experience with our most recent technical document, dubbed the Syscoin 3.0 Whitepaper Summary.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be publishing separate sections of the Whitepaper Summary, in order to spread the word of our concepts via our social network channels. Stay tuned for our up-coming “Deconstructing the Syscoin 3.0 Whitepaper” series!

  •  Creating Atomic and Non-Atomic Assets on Blockmarket Desktop 3.0

For first-time use instructions, please see Using Blockmarket Desktop 3.0 for the first time.

With Blockmarket Desktop 3.0 you can easily create your own digital Asset/Token.

Determine if you want an Atomic or non-Atomic Asset.

The “New Asset” option under the “Assets” drop-down menu brings you to the “New Asset” window; by default, the first option is to create a “non-Atomic” asset.

“Non-Atomic” means that the coins you generate can be divisible(at up to 8 decimals) and that you can also set an “Interest Rate” for the tokens. If you would like a non-divisible token (that does not allow an interest rate), then please skip to the “Creating an Atomic Asset” section further below.

    Creating a Non-Atomic Asset

On the “New Asset” form. Enter the “Symbol” you would like to use for your token (similar to a stock ‘ticker’ symbol), “Description”(a brief description of the Token’s Utility), “Owner Alias” (the Alias you want to own the asset), “Category”. The “Precision” is the amount of decimals you would like to put after the token, for example, if you would like your token to mimic the US dollar, select 2 so that your token can divisible by 100 like the Dollar. The “Maximum Supply” and the “Initial Supply of Asset” (max. 10 million); if you do not want to limit the maximum amount of coins, select “unbounded supply”. Enter the “Interest Rate(Percentage)” if required (or choose not to have an interest rate or to be able to change the interest rate in the future, click on the “Interest Rate Is Adjustable” box.

Click “Create New Asset” when you have completed the form, Blockmarket will ask you to confirm if you want to proceed. Click “Yes” to proceed.

    Confirm your new Asset creation

You will receive a confirmation message of the transaction.

A transaction confirmation message will appear when you have created your Asset.

After a few minutes, your new token will show in the “My Assets” window which can be found under the “Assets” drop-down menu. This window provides you with options to “Transfer” the entire Asset to another party, “Send” the Asset, “Mint” the Asset, or “Update” the Asset.

Your new Asset will show on the “Assets” window

    Creating an Atomic Asset

On the “New Asset” form, click on the “Asset is Atomic” box, placing a checkmark in the box. Enter the “Symbol” you would like to use for your token (similar to a stock ‘ticker’ symbol), the “description”(a brief description of the Token’s Utility), “Owner Alias” (the Alias you want to own the asset), “Category”, the “Initial Supply of Asset” (max. 10 million) and the “Maximum Supply”, or if you do not want to limit the maximum amount of coins, select “unbounded supply”.

New Asset Window: Creating TestCoin, The Coin for Testers And Training Specialists.

Click “Create New Asset” when you have completed the form, Blockmarket will ask you to confirm if you want to proceed. Click “Yes” to proceed.

    Confirming the creation of TestCoin.

After a few minutes, your new token will show in the “My Assets” window, which can be found under the “Assets” drop-down menu. This window provides you with options to “Transfer” the entire Asset to another party, “Send” the Asset or “Update” the Asset.

After a few minutes, the TEST Asset shows in the “My Assets” window.

Wherever possible, words such as "will", "plans," "expects," "targets," "continues", "estimates," "scheduled," "anticipates," "believes," "intends," "may," "could," "would" or might, and the negative of such expressions or statements that certain actions, events or results "may," "could," "would," "might" or "will" be taken, occur or be achieved, have been used to identify forward-looking information.

Forward-looking statements should not be read as guarantees of future events, future performance or results, and will not necessarily be accurate indicators of the times at, or by which, such events, performance or results will be achieved, if achieved at all.  Readers should not place undue reliance on such forward-looking statements, as they reflect management's current views with respect to future events and are subject to risks and uncertainties and are necessarily based upon a number of estimates and assumptions that, while considered reasonable by BCF are inherently subject to significant business, economic, regulatory, competitive, political and social uncertainties and contingencies. Many factors could cause BCF's actual results, performance or achievements to be materially different from any future results, performance, or achievements that may be expressed or implied by such forward-looking statements.

  • Syscoin (sys) Release 3.1.0.0

    Syscoin 3.1.0.0 Release Notes

This is a mandatory update for existing Syscoin 3 users and masternodes. It is a backwards compatible fork that will trigger at block 175000 and enable new features/bug fixes. Sentinel was not updated. Any nodes after block 175000 that have not upgraded will not be able to synchronize with the network tip.

    Changes

    1. New feature: Shared transaction fees with masternodes. This gives further incentive for masternode owners on propogating transactions as well as to continue services.
    2. Fix transaction propogation issue which caused many transactions to be stuck in the memory pools of nodes and not get included in a block. The issue was related to the concurrent verification module in Syscoin and the threadpool was not initialized in the correct place of the startup sequence and thus behaved erratically depending on the user OS and system parameters.
    3. Add base58 address support to Syscoin Assets. This will help with exchanges and services going forward that have built support for Bitcoin related protocols without requiring custom processes to manage Syscoin assets. It will be very simple to use Syscoin's API to manage assets for those that are connected to addresses. Things like connecting to Ledger/Trezor will also be alot easier through the electrum integration work being done.
    4. Fix an issue with claiming interest on large balance holders. There were many issues with collecting interest. The CPS alias coinpaymentsnet was not properly collecting interest due to an integer overflow issue caused by the storage of the interest rate accumulator in a 64-bit integer. We have updated this to a double giving much more range in accumulation before an overflow. A 64 bit integer allows for a maximum value of 2^64 -1 where a double allows for 1.8*10^308 - 1 as a maximum value making this a non-issue using a double as storage. This fix means that interest after block 175000 will be correct and accumulate properly regardless of the size of your holdings. It only affected one alias (coinpaymentsnet)
    5. General optimizations to the concurrent processing and Syscoin service consensus processing.
    6. General bug fixes

  • Syscoin (Sys) Release Wallet v3.1.1.0

    Syscoin 3.1.1.0 Release Notes

This is a non-mandatory update for existing Syscoin 3 users and masternodes. It generally fixes balance descrepencies on Syscoin Assets. Useful for Blockmarket and Syscoin Asset exchanges.

BMD 3.1.1 will have this core release installed. We ask that anybody handling Syscoin Assets to upgrade to this core version and resync your internal databases to detect any missing payments.

    Changes

    1. Fixed the interest calculation on Syscoin Assets to perform powl (long double) instead of pow (float) which some compilers choose by default and caused rounding issues. There is still an issue on Windows that causes some differences in the balances in tiny amounts. Mac/Linux seem to be identical. #271
    2. Added a 1000 satoshi buffer to deal with descrepencies between Windows and Mac/Linux. This will keep the balances in sync generally.
