  • The Syscoin 3.0 Upgrade Process Begins!

As announced at our official Syscoin Meetup and as stated in our last blog post, the Syscoin 3.0 upgrade process will begin taking place at exactly block number 683412.

We had previously estimated that block number 683412 would take place on April 30th, 2018, however, due to the recent increasing difficulty of the Syscoin network and longer-than-expected block times (currently averaging over 62.7seconds), the snapshot is now estimated to occur on May 1st, 2018.

We will be taking a snapshot of Syscoin 2.x at block number 683412 and will be running scripts to copy all offers, balances and aliases over which will take a few hours to run.   The exchanges will then need to audit the Syscoin 3.0 code, run their own scripts and verify that all balances are exactly the same as the 2.x chain and to verify the Syscoin 3.0 code.

The process for the Syscoin 3.0 upgrade will take time. Some exchanges have already begun the preparation for the Syscoin 3.0 fork and we have received confirmation from the most prominent ones. As the processes are different for most exchanges and many are located in different time-zones throughout the world(IE: Chinese Labor Day holiday between April 30th to May 1st), we cannot confirm how long it will take exchanges to resume trading and/or upgrade their wallets.

We are in contact with all exchanges, services & miners that publicly trade and support Syscoin. Bittrex, UpBit and Flyp.me have published their support for the Syscoin 3.0 upgrade, Poloniex has already disabled wallets and all others should be disabling their wallets before block number 683412 (and possibly halting trades).

UPbit confirms Syscoin 3.0 Upgrade Support Flyp.me informs their community that Syscoin will be temporarily offline until the Syscoin 3.0 Upgrade

Backup process: How do I upgrade to Syscoin 3.0?

The backup process is the same as for any upgrade. Just make sure you save your wallet.dat somewhere safe (we suggest you back it up in different locations such as more than one flash drive to ensure you have several backups at different locations).

How to find your wallet.dat on Blockmarket Desktop or Syscoin-qt:

On Windows: 1) Go to your C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Syscoin\ folder and find the file called wallet.dat

    2) Copy this to a flash drive or a private cloud account

On Mac: 1) Go to your /Users/[USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/Syscoin/ folder and find the file called wallet.dat

    2) Copy this to a flash drive or a private cloud account

If your wallet is encrypted(password-protected), be sure to write down the passphrase and keep it in a separate location from the flash drive. You may make as many backups as you feel is necessary.

How to Backup Your Private Keys

Backing up your private keys is also recommended, however your wallet may contain multiple addresses. Be sure to backup all addresses with balances using this guide.

My coins are already on an exchange

If you are keeping your Syscoin on a cryptocurrency trading exchange, the exchanges should all eventually be upgrading to Syscoin 3.0. Your Syscoin 2.x balance should convert over to Syscoin 3.0 when they have finalized their end of the wallet upgrade.

  • Syscoin Indexing Service

Syscoin 3.0: The New Blockchain Application Development Platform for Leaders, Inventors, and Innovators.

With the launch of Syscoin 3.0 we are thrilled to introduce a suite of new tools for creating custom blockchain applications. These tools provide: Flexibility, scalability, signing and identity capabilities, minimized blockchain bloat, smaller application footprints, and provide additional functionality alongside the Syscoin Core that can be used on custom projects and applications with cross-platform blockchain security. Functions that bloat or slow down the blockchain have been abstracted from the core as optional libraries to allow for separation of concerns and parallel execution — all hashed and anchored to the blockchain. By providing these types of tools we can build a larger and more robust ecosystem around Syscoin and its services.

    Indexing Service

Syscoin Indexing Service is a system designed to provide a fast, powerful search and data extraction experience. It speeds up and enhances searches by syncing data from the blockchain and other sources, indexing it in a local database. As the blockchain core process receives blocks from the network, the indexer listens for messages that are emitted from the core. It picks up those messages and writes details to the indexer database; by running the Indexer as a background service, you can search quickly, filter data and conduct transformations on that data.

Syscoin Indexing Service uses three parts: Syscoin Indexer, Syscoin Indexer API and Syscoin Indexer DB.

Syscoin Indexing Service uses three parts: Syscoin Indexer, Syscoin Indexer API and Syscoin Indexer DB.

With Syscoin Indexer, you can customize the deployment to index the data on the decentralized application(dApp) that you are building, index information from blockchain, and pull information from other data sources. You can then put it in a datastore that is more in-line with your application and transform it to suit your project. This allows you to define your own schemas based on the data you want to index as well as choose the type of database you want to use, such as Mongo, SQL, SQLite, or other databases.

    Indexing Service for Blockmarket

By re-using the Syscoin Indexing Service libraries on both Blockmarket Desktop and Blockmarket Web, we have improved the user experience drastically on both projects with a single code-base. The speed has increased and you are now able to add filters to searches based on title, alias, name, description, price, geo-location or other criteria across multiple data sources. By running the indexer for Blockmarket Web on distributed host servers we can guarantee 99% up-time and DDOS prevention for index-based searches.

  • Syscoin Encrypted Messaging Service

Syscoin 3.0: The New Blockchain Application Development Platform for Leaders, Inventors, and Innovators.

We are happy to introduce a suite of new tools for creating custom blockchain applications with Syscoin 3.0. These provide flexibility, scalability, minimize blockchain bloat, and allow for smaller application footprints. These tools enable additional functionality alongside the Syscoin Core and can be used on custom projects and applications with cross-platform blockchain security, signing, and identity capabilities. Functions that bloat or slow down the blockchain have been abstracted from the core as optional libraries to allow for separation of concerns and parallel execution — all hashed and anchored to the blockchain. By providing these types of tools we can build a larger and more robust ecosystem around Syscoin and its services.

    Syscoin Encrypted Messaging Service

Syscoin’s encrypted messaging system is designed to create a secure and unbreakable messaging platform that is anchored to the blockchain. Messages require a transaction fee for each message, and can be stored free for an arbitrary length of time, or permanently for an additional fee. Optional ephemeral messaging can increase security if keys or end-points are ever compromised; messages can be removed after an arbitrary length of time, and cannot be mined for data by nefarious parties if they no longer exist. Messages are encrypted using blockchain authentication and use an asymmetrical ECEIS public/private key scheme, secured by an identity system. Message size and rate can be limited to prevent spamming and DDOS attacks.

    Off-Chain Encrypted Messaging

    Encrypted Messaging for Blockmarket

Using Syscoin’s encrypted messaging system will offer a much faster, cheaper and richer messaging experience within Blockmarket. Messages are now instant and indicate if a message is read or unread, with increased usability, better user experience, and more capabilities. Messages are encrypted to your public/private key, hashed and stored in a distributed cloud service provided by Blockchain Foundry and anchored to the Syscoin blockchain.

    Syscoin Encrypted Messaging

    Future Capabilities

In the coming months of development we plan to add additional functionality to Syscoin encrypted messaging service. With the new messaging system it is now possible to implement optional email notifications for specific events on Blockmarket such as notification of a sale or an escrow request. We may also add image support, enhanced (HTML) messages, attachments, export messages to a file for safekeeping, and even support direct phone calls and text messages.

In the initial Syscoin 3.0 release, messages will be stored for free for 30 days but we will be implementing an optional fee to save messages for longer than 30 days in later updates.

  • Syscoin 3.0 Whitepaper Summary

A whitepaper is a report that describes possible and existing features and concepts of a project that are often difficult for most to understand. Historically the Syscoin whitepapers have been so complex that many developers find them a heavy read. A few days ago, we released the Syscoin 3.0 Whitepaper. Although it was appreciated by many technically-minded individuals, we are aware that not everyone is willing to read an in-depth technical document.

One of our missions is to make the Syscoin platform’s features and possibilities understandable to all. Thus, we’ve decided to provide the same user-friendly experience with our most recent technical document, dubbed the Syscoin 3.0 Whitepaper Summary.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be publishing separate sections of the Whitepaper Summary, in order to spread the word of our concepts via our social network channels. Stay tuned for our up-coming “Deconstructing the Syscoin 3.0 Whitepaper” series!
