What is ALIS
ALIS is Japan's first distributed social media platform. It is a new and novel social media where many individuals can create and find articles which people find valuable. With ALIS token as key driver, we remove ads and stealth marketing strategy and allow people to quickly reach high quality articles and trusted individuals. To be honest, we were intrigued by STEEM (https://steem.io) and started this plan of the platform since then. The article about STEEM is at https://cointelegraph.com/news... It is an easy to understand article. Our story began with Sota Ishii, our project member posted several travel photos (https://steemit.com/japanese/@sot528/1-south-america-tour-no-1) on STEEM. Surprisingly this article gained close to $30 and we were able to buy the most expensive pizza at Domino.
researched STEEM thoroughly (not for another domino pizza). And the more we researched STEEM, the more we found it to be great. At STEEM, by platform itself being evaluated, STEEM's token itself goes up in value, and traded in exchanges at high price. This scheme was realized by the value increase being distributed to creators and evaluators of articles. Moreover, STEEM has already been valued at 378 million dollars (as of July 9, 2017). We can now truly feel the era of new media. Traditionally the media has relied on ads for their revenue (as you know both Google and Facebook rely more than 70% of revenue on ad sales), and it is unavoidable for user to see ads or articles that are like ads when browsing articles. Under such condition, there has been various counter-measures in ad industry. For example, paying incentives when users allow the ads to appear, or showing only the ads user truly need by means of machine learning, etc. However none of them seem to be successful so far, and users are still forced to consume unwanted ads and meaningless ads that are inspired by native ads trend (much worse because they don't look like ads). The scheme of STEEM has the power to change the rules of economics, from ground up. However we saw two big shortcomings (STEEM is great service nonetheless, and we are inspired by it). First the token scheme which is the backbone of the platform is too complicated and takes long time to understand. Not just STEEM but tokens such as STEEM SP and STEEM Dollars exist, and the means to acquire them are complex and the rules of operating the platform are very difficult to understand for first-time users. This prevents new users with lower literacy from joining, which is negative in terms of activation and retention which we consider are most important in media platform. Second, STEEM is not localized for Japanese audience at all. We launched ALIS project to solve all this. ALIS has three features the traditional social media lack.

Our service is made in reference of STEEM. STEEM is a great service and it showed a way of media in next generation, because it proofed that by creating non-centralized social media platform, media can be freed from advertising monetize model. On the other hand, we think that its complex system will be a burden for future growth. Because STEEM holds multiple crypto currencies, STEEM, STEEM SP, STEEM DOLLAR, it is making the platform’s rule way too complicated, which damages new users’ engagement, the most important key success factor for social media. So, we thought about creating a non-centralized social media limited to one currency, but of course there is a reason for STEEM having multiple currencies. Like STEEM SP is taking an important role for earning repeating users, so the issue is not so simple. Than we focused on concept call harvest in Nem. Nem’s consensus building algorithm is well known as “Proof of Importance”, and we focused on one of its logic, the amount of time after Nem was moved the wallet. By mixing this logic, we believe that ALIS can earn repeating users even by one currency.
Another point ALIS differentiate from STEEM is that one of our vision is to “visualize trust of people”. For details we want you read our whitepaper, but we are aiming to be a trustworthy platform for people working in BtoC/CtoC market in near future by visualizing users’ trusts through writing and evaluating great articles. At last, we would also like to explain about one more unique point about ALIS, which the service is going to offered in Japan. Japan is still №3 country in GDP, and in February 2nd, 2017, it became the country with largest transaction volume of Bitcoin in the world, beyond China. Introduction to the platform and its features
In ALIS, we distribute more ALIS token to creators of articled deemed by people to be good, and those who evaluated such articles. In other words, this is social media platform where one can find trusted articles and people by means of rewards. Such media itself is rather new in concept, and features of our platform in comparison with existing STEEM is: 1. Our token is just one for simplicity, and rules of platform evolution is also simple 2. With these kind of functions, ALIS provides the value to immediately access to the articles / people that are trustworthy on topics of interest. How token is created and distributed
ALIS is set to procure funds with ICO, and plan to issue 500 million and exchange half of it with Ethereum. The upper limit of distribution is 250 million and the rest (250 million) will be owned by us and our stakeholders. The reason why we own 50% is, we ourselves will have healthy incentive to develop this platform this way. However, just because we own the largest part of token, it doesn't mean we decide how the value of this platform will be created, it must be mentioned. Also, we cannot sell the token we own at our whim (it will be announced that we will limit our ability to sell token with smart contract) Now, we explained that the ALIS token distributed via ICO has 50% of inflation rate, and here we explain about how the inflation part will be distributed. The basic idea is two-fold like already mentioned, they are:
1. Distributed to those who created great articles
2. Distributed to those who evaluated articles deemed great early
With regard to amount of distribution, we create a logic where the more ALIS token one owns, the more he/she can receive from this distribution. In other words, we consider those who contribute to ALIS's platform long term and holds more token as most important stakeholders, and we set the rule so that they will have more benefit. This is similar to PoI (Proof of Importance) and if the user is important and cares about the platform, he/she will contribute to the platform in a healthy way, we believe. Also, if that is the case, it may be a concern that someone who bought a large quantity of ALIS token enters the platform suddenly and change the value of platform as they wish. Regarding this concern, as already mentioned, it takes time for ALIS token to become effective on the platform. In other words, while we prevent user with large amount of token from doing wrong, we maintain the incentive to hold the token on the platform. You can say killing two birds with a stone.
We will have the projections of the value token will have in future in three scenarios - optimistic, middle, and pessimistic. For calculation we referred the current valuation of STEEM heavily. As basic logic, with a user's value in STEEM as guide, increase of number of users are multiplied by their value. Please make note of these pre-conditions here: 1. One user will create two articles on average (User average at STEEM) 2. Everything but number of users (operating members , quality of application, countries where users reside) are equivalent to STEEM The value at three years later, calculated here divided by total amount of ALIS token issued three years later will be the value of 1 ALIS token. How the money will be used
We are planning to use the token for these purposes and ratio if we could achieve the minimum amount of 350 million yen in ICO:

## Service Overview of ALIS
Q1. What is ALIS?
A1. ALIS is Japan’s first social media using blockchain technology. People can access to trustworthy articles quickly by using ALIS. For short overview, see the articles below.

Q2. How is the progress of development? When will the service be released?
A2. ALIS’s development has not started yet. We plan to start the service development after the ICO. Release date is not fixed at this moment, because the schedule can change depending on the service design. We aim to release the β version within 6 months, official version within next one year.
Q3. Which consensus algorithm do you plan to use?
A3. PoS will be used as its base, and we plan to add logic to prolong amount of time needed for the token to be valid.
Q4. If you are going to use Ethereum, why not using PoW?
A4. We have the image of development by DApps on Ethereum, but there could always be a possibility for better choice. To make the best, we plan to choose the platform depending on procurement amount of ICO. Existing platform like Ethereum has advantages in perspective of man-hours of implementation and easy operations, but we believe we should consider other choices for reasons such as the raise of transaction fee of Ethereum. Q5. How do you read ALIS? Why is it called ALIS? A5. It is pronounced as ˈælɪs. ALIS is a coined word that comes from “alliance” and “wisdom”.
## About Technology
Q1. How much is the transaction fee going to be?
A1. We will use Ethereum for ICO, and we are also considering about developing on DApps on Ethereum, but we believe that recent transaction fees of Ethereum are becoming rather too expensive and this could be a serious problem for our business model. Since this will be the most important technical choice, we will carefully choose which technology to use.
Q2. How many seconds will the block time be?
A2. It depends on block approval time of platform we use. If we use Ethereum, the block time will differ depending on specification of Ethereum.
Q3. Is ALIS going to be developed on NEO?
A3. TBA. We will announce as soon as details are fixed with the NEO team, but we figure some time will be necessary for the content and schedule to be worked out.
Q4. Is ALIS using XEM?
A4. No, we will use ALIS token, different from XEM. We plan to implement a logic based on PoI, the newest algorithm used in XEM. ALIS token will be tuned for “trust visualization”. Since there were multiple people asking about logic of “trust visualization”, an article about this topic will be released on Medium soon.
## Logic of Token Distribution
Q1. Are numbers of ALIS token going to increase annually?
A1. Yes, for valid tokens in ALIS wallet, there will be inflation of 50% every year. At this moment we prospect as the number of ALIS token as following: 1st year — 500 millions 2nd year — 600 millions 3rd year — 720 millions
Q2. How often is the token going to be distributed? A2. It is planned to be distributed weekly. We are doing so to protect the token from fraudulent action, such as user liking unusual numbers. The actual approval period will depend on the specification of blockchain platform we use. If we use Ethereum, since the transaction approval within 12 seconds is too short and the gas price is too expensive, we are thinking about combination with private blockchain.
Q3. How does the logic for trustworthy article going to be made?
A3. We plan to make our logic as following: -Writers and finders of trustworthy article will earn more tokens. -Trust, in this case number of “like”, from trustworthy people will worth more. (Logic included in the whitepaper is an example) The details will be fixed after going through trial and error on the actual platform. For example, when the logic is based on network theory, parameters for token distribution, such as PageRank, betweenness centrality, eigenvector centrality, degree centrality, and etc., will be adjusted so people can quickly access/search trustworthy articles. Of course there are no such thing as definite logic because parameters needs adjustment as the network grows (google search has similar adjustment). Therefore we are thinking about changing the parameters by consensus of the community in each phase of the service. We plan to release an article on Medium about this topic within few days, so please wait for the details.
Q4. I think the current logic might keep away new users because the existing users with more ALIS token, which means more power, seems to have the advantage.
A4. We believe this can be avoided by logic of token distribution. If there are emergence of users with too much power, this can be a risk to not only the newcomers but to the existing users and platform itself. This kind of situation can be avoided by adjusting the distribution logic, but the platform is under centralized management if the operating organization keeps leading. Since we want our platform to be non-centralized, we plan for user voting to adjust these logic when the service is stable.
Q5. There are many ways to spread information other than articles, such as videos and photographs. Why is ALIS focusing on articles?
A5. Like STEEM and Medium, we are planning to develop posting of videos and photographs. We will also allow articles with less numbers of characters.
Q6. Is it possible to say that trustworthy articles can always be determined by evaluation of many people?
A6. We believe so at this moment, but not only the numbers of people. The evaluation from people who earned continuous trust is most trustworthy. Of course there could be articles and people that should not be trusted, in these cases, we need to add and fix our logic. For example, if the community members liked each other for inappropriate purpose, we can catch it by adding a detecting logic through the community networks and decreasing distribution of token in such cases.
## Details of ALIS’s Functions
Q1. In the whitepaper it says that you will start from specific categories. Is it possible to use the service for other categories?？
A1. Yes, you can use the service in other categories as well. We are thinking about specifying categories, such as crypto currencies, but we are doing so to target and activate articles and users.
Q2. Is ALIS going to be open in multiple languages? A2. First, we plan to only release in Japanese. After Japanese ALIS starts running well, we plan service release in English.

Q1. In the whitepaper, growth strategy is explained as below, but is it planned to progress in this order? What are the conditions to going to next step and how long would it take?
1. Establishing market share in niche areas

A1. Yes, we plan to progress in this order while continuing verification. KPI are assumed to be the following, but it can change as the service grow. Since ALIS is made by lean development process, please understand that our goal is not the achievement of certain plan, but “enough findings to progress to the next step”.
1→2： If we can catch the raise of writers and voters utilization rate to articles about crypto currencies, we will determine that ALIS has become continuous platform and will advance to next topic. Main KPI’s will be described by formula below: number of writers * number of article posted * number of continued users
2→3：Accuracy of trust algorithm and discovering of key driver will be most important. We are thinking about visualizing the potential possibility of people through the network of our users when ordering a job. For example, in case of a blogger, PageRank and eigenvector centrality will be implemented to the logic. # Project Background There is not a single day in the typical modern person’s life where she doesn’t rely on information obtained on the internet. But contrary to our reliance and addiction to such information, the quality and reliability of web media is being questioned on a global scale, and Japan is no exception — or rather, the situation in Japan is exceptionally poor. For example, when you search for articles regarding cryptocurrencies and ICO/ITOs — areas where already significant amounts of money are transacted — you would be exposed to a myriad of Japanese scam articles and hoaxes, not to mention unreliable information or blatant lies. Our management nearly got lured to a scam project as a result. Such situations exist not only in nascent industries but in any area you can think of, where people are exposed to unreliable curation media recommendations on top of search results. We know that many people have gone through uncomfortable experiences where innocent clicks have taken them to stealth marketing or poor quality articles. We believe that the advertising driven nature of traditional media is at the root of this undesirable situation, and decided to create a totally new type of media in Japan that does not rely on advertising income. # How does ALIS solve this problem?
ALIS will be Japan’s first social media utilizing blockchain technology. The service will enable people, through an endorsement mechanism and algorithm using ALIS tokens, to easily find trustworthy articles and their authors. There are three core features and mechanisms to realize this, and to make it successful.
- Innovative discover of reliable articles We will rely on a combination of crowdsourced human evaluation and a unique algorithm to surface and identify quality Japanese-language articles found on the internet. Initial ALIS Token holders will use their Tokens to “Like/endorse/vote” what they regard as quality articles, and will in return be rewarded varying amounts of Tokens depending on each user’s contribution in identifying such quality information . The authors of such quality articles will also be rewarded with ALIS tokens. - Japan’s huge potential as cryptocurrency market Japan is well known to be accountable for a large portion of trading volume for Bitcoin. Japan is also recognized as one of the frontrunners in Bitcoin adoption bitcoin can even today be used at popular electronics franchises and restaurant chains, and this country is poised to become one of the advanced leaders in the Bitcoin world. In fact, more than half of ALIS’s website visitors are overseas users who are attracted to Japan and its potential. Even with very little marketing, we are surprised to find people from around the globe talking about ALIS on reddit and posting videos on youtube. We believe the potential for Japan in this space is huge.
# Mid-term business plan
Our middle term milestones are supposed as follows.
1. Launch ALIS ICO on September, 1st 02:00 (UTC) 2. Close our ICO on September, 29th 01:59 (UTC) and start to hire our project members and execute on our development plans 3. Launch ALIS βversion on April, 2018 4. Release official ALIS service on October, 2018. We will develop our platform as Japan’s first trustworthy media in blockchain and cryptocurrency industry.
We will be sharing the entire ICO process and the system development process on github, in the hope that we such information will contribute to the understanding of such processes. We wish the sharing of such knowhow will help increase the number of entrants in the blockchain industry in Japan. We have released all the activities so far on Trello, so you can track everything in the past and future. We hope that our own success will give blockchain technology and ICOs more attention, and will in turn make more people enter this exciting market.

ALIS - About collaborating with the NEO team.
Now the ALIS team is working hard to prepare for the ICO on September 1st.
Recently we received some questions from overseas about a collaboration between ALIS and the NEO team. In particular, some think our ICO on Sept. 1st is a NEO based ICO so we will discuss 2 points:
- We will have an ICO on Sept. 1, 2017 on Ethereum.
2. Please be reassured, we would be happy to collaborate with the NEO team and are currently speaking with them.
Sorry for any confusion and let us further explain.
First of all, this project will be launched on Ethereum. This plan has not changed. We will have an ICO on Sep 1, 2017 on Ethereum.
Furthermore, we are really excited about potentially collaborating with NEO’s innovative team.
Fortunately three weeks ago, NEO’s co-founder Da Hongfei said ,“After the ICO on Ethereum, it is possible to have another ICO on NEO” at a meeting with the ALIS team. He understands the ALIS team’s situation.
Two days ago, we deployed ICO contracts to Ethereum’s main net. We have finished preparing for the ICO scheduled on September 1st. Now we can plan an NEO based ICO. Our engineer is already studying about NEO.
We are currently in the works with Da Hongfei and are trying to finalize our collaboration and the ICO project. We will inform you as soon as something has been finalized.

ALIS - Important announcement about cooperation with NEO team
Today we wanted to announce very important matter, ALIS’s launch on NEO. Please accept our deepest apologies but ultimately we have come to the decision to not have an ICO on NEO. We truly apologize for any inconveniences that this may have caused. We would like to take the opportunity to give you a detailed explanation.

Since we are Japanese company and not will be affected by this law, but we have to clear the position with NEO. As we mentioned, there is a regulation that all ICO are restricted in China. This means if we leave the room to launch ICO on NEO, Chinese government may restrict us and even there is a possibility to restrict our on going ICO on Ethereum. Our team is praying that the effect of the regulation will be minimal on the NEO team.
We apologize to be the one to suddenly end the collaboration however we would like to offer a potential compensation. Since our presence in the Japanese market is continuing to grow, our members are getting several offers to act as an advisory for other ICOs, and we are actually advising some of them. In such cases, we would like to introduce NEO to these projects.
We sent an email to Da Hongfei as well, but he is very busy now and we can’t get his reply back quickly, so we announced this statement by ourselves. We also deleted Chinese on our website.
We are so sad that we can’t work together with NEO team. Once again, please accept our apologies for any inconveniences this may have caused and we are wishing for further success of NEO.

We have decided to burn (delete) all of the tokens that are unsold during the ICO! Instead of having the team own the unsold tokens, we have decided to burn them because it will substantially increase the value of all users’ tokens. We also will burn not only the unsold tokens but also the tokens possessed by the team in order to fit the ratio stated in our whitepaper because there may be a negative correlation if team retains a large number of tokens. ALIS hold an Meet up event in Tokyo
We hold meet up event on 29 September after ICO ends. More than 100 people, who are investors and fans, joined it. We reported our recent activity and our roadmap in the future. After that we had a time to communicate with each other including ALIS members, and also we got interview by NHK( one of the most famous television in Japan).

At the beginning of the evernt, Masahiro Yasu, CEO of ALIS, told the report of ICO and expressed gratitude to our investors.

Yasu, CEO of ALIS, talked why he established ALIS and what he want to realize in ALIS.
Summary of the Presentation
- He wants to change this world’s rule which is “The person’s life is mostly determined when he is born.”
- He said “My life is really lucky one. I was born in poor family and poor area in Japan, but could met very good people and information. If I couldn’t meet those people and information, my life would be changed radically. I want to change this network and information disparity.”
- What I want to realize in ALIS finally is “Distinguish trustworthy person and become the platform of trust”
- He said he want to try to make the service truly with their community members together with token economy.
- He promised that ALIS dev team will completely focus on launching ang growing up their product with the best team and fund.
Next, Takashi Mizusawa, CMO of ALIS, talked about the marketing plan in the future.
Summary of presentation
- Start ups do need a marketer. Marketing doesn’t mean to use Ads with huge money, should mean it makes you don’t need to sale or advertise your product.
- People tend not to accept the company’s marketing. They hate the web ads which is made by some company. The information is spreading not from company, but from people on social today. The purpose of marketing will change to that people approve your service.
- Marketing Policy in ALIS is “Transfer of Trust Marketing(ToT)”. The trust will move from A to B with network. He aimed to move some people’s trust about ALIS to another people who is in same community cluster. For example, “You want to go to the restaurant which is recommended by your friend who knows only excellent restaurant”, “The person who is introduced by high level business person also looks high performance”
- The blogger who are interested in ALIS introduced ALIS to their community, and changed the people who though ALIS is scam to people who believe in ALIS.
- He set up the “number of slack members” as a KPI which is mostly related to the raised amount of fund in ICO.
- As a result, the number of community members are grown up rapidly. The number of Slack community member is 2700, the number of Twitter is 4300.
- Coinexchange.io listed ALIS token on their exchange. Yasu is talking with several exchanges continuously.
- He introduced the roadmap of ALIS. They will release MVP which will test the service design on December, and will relase β version on April, 2018.
At Last, Sota Ishii, CTO of ALIS, talked about technology.
Summary of presentation
- He has worked over 15years as an engineer, he is attracted to blockchain technology. He has already experienced MT.GOX and The DAO.
- He said he is an high skill engineer, so please see his Github
- The quality of smartcontract is very important because there is a possibility to lose over $1million because of the bugs.
- He thinks it takes much time to develop a platform like Ethereum, but it doesn’t take time to develop an application on Ethereum. ALIS should choose the latter one so as to develop our application quickly.
- How ALIS will be designed with technology? Please see the key slide below.
- Last about ICO. ICO smart contract is a killer application of Ethereum which enable people to gain lots of money simply and reasonably and securely without an administrator. This is the huge merit of using blockchain technology.
- Now people are thinking ALIS is the first decent ICO project, but we have to change this to that ALIS is the first decent blockchain project in Japan. If people say ALIS = ICO in one or two years later, it means our service’s fail.
After this presentation, we started to talk with the attendees. There are various people like investors, lawyers, mass media, entrepreneurs, famous bloggers and they enjoyed their time there.

『The future ALIS try to realize 』 by Masahiro Yasu, CEO
At first, Masahiro talked about the purpose of Meetup and the future ALIS want to realize.Why we launched ICO, and what token economy substantially is
- It is difficult to change the life against your initial condition when you were born in this capitalism. I don’t think it is absolutely bad, but there are a lot of rooms to improve this society.
- In such a situation, this world is moving to the world where there are no mediators like Bitcoin.
- Bitcoin’s one of core values “People who contribute aggressively to rise Bitcoin’s value can get rewards” is very important and it can also apply to the token economy as well.
- In company, the purpose of investors and employees and users don’t match. However, in token economy, the main purpose of those people easily match. It changes the way of business development in the future, and it enables people to purse the value(not money) which is important to the community. (In case ALIS, value is to find trustworthy people and articles)
- ALIS want to serve the value that it enables people to find trustworthy people and articles
- Why ALIS want to realize the value is that people have three capitals, financial capital, human capital, social capital. We believe social capital is the most important capital, but people haven’t treated it as most important capital
- ALIS wants to realize the world where people can use the trust and social capital on ALIS to empower individuals.
- However, it is difficult to build such world without using capitalism, so we have to try to link the token economy and capitalism so as to grow token economy much stronger one.

Next, Takashi, the CMO of ALIS, talked about the narrative growing of our service and ToT Marketing, which are important factors to succeed.He talked about “Transfer of Trust Marketing” which ALIS teams think one of most important things
- There are over 1000 cryptocurrencies, and how does ALIS be chosen to invest? That’s what CMO have to answer.
- The marketing tactics of ALIS is Transfer of Trust Marketing（ToT Marketing）. I created this word originally, so you may not hear about it. This is the way to realize the transferring of trust. In this information overloaded era, trust have a huge power and value. We aim to be trusted by confirmation in community.
- What trust is? I think it is deciding something without reason. The tasty ramen shop in Shibuya which is not famous but referred by famous people who are familiar with ramen, is the example of trust.
- Why people start to pay attention to community is that it affects a lots to business, product, token’s value. Needless to say, we have to launch product to rise token’s value essentially.
- The community is very important to ALIS because ALIS is the social media platformALIS. That’s why we create good relationships with our users even though we haven’t released our product yet.
- We will launch our closed β version in April. Why we will start from closed β, not open β is that there are several things we want to verify.
- Ambassador can’t get a direct reward like money or tokens. We don’t give them an information it may cause insider trade. There are over 100 applications all over the world to Ambassador program, and we are now preparing to see all of them.

- We didn’t create design just to consider UI, but also consider the whole story of user experience in the future as well
- Persona is the people who tried to write articles but didn’t last because it is important for ALIS to increase who can write good articles. We also think famous crypto blogger is another Persona.
- We created Customer Journey Map and made features so as to solve the user’s problems
- We decided our Tone & Manner which seem cool to our persona
- ALIS is like window, so the most important thing is the view(article) through the window. We created the whole design so as not to disturb to see articles
- The information architecture of ALIS is created with referring another social medias, and created as simple as possible.
- We explained both smartphone design and PC design. We also explained how you can give us feedback for design mock on Medium
- We are very excited how much feedback we can get!

My name is Sota Ishii, the CTO of ALIS.
Have you seen the profiles of the other ALIS team members? Such as the CEO Yasu, a graduate of Kyoto University which just so happens to have the highest number of Nobel Prize winner recipients in Japan. Or our legal department’s Kamei who graduated from Japan’s most prestigious university, the University of Tokyo.
We have some of the smartest people in Japan on our team! You might be wondering, where is diversity on our team?
Don’t worry, I’m here. Actually, I have no extensive academic background like them. When I graduated from high school, I left home and wasn’t on speaking terms with my parents. At that point in time I had cut ties with them due to some family issues.
At this point you might asking, is this a sob story? Actually, far for it. Although I’ve faced some challenges, feel like I’m one of the luckiest people on the Earth. After an extended period of time, I reached out to my parents when I was 23 years old. In the end, things turned out well.
As far as my career goes, I have acquired the skills I need to live my life well. I decided to enter the IT industry and and through hard work and determination I gained invaluable experience. Finally, I have reached the point where I am self-employed. Now, I have over 13 years of experience as a system engineer.
I may not have lived my life smart like the other members of ALIS, however, I paved my own way and managed to get to where I am today. In a nutshell, I went to hell and back again. Even in the toughest of situations, I can survive.
Despair? I’s a piece of cake for me.
Why I launched the ALIS project?
I worked for 2 years a long side our CEO Yasu and CMO Mizusawa until April 2017. Also, I had a little bit of crypto currency stashed away during this time, so I could take one or two years just to focus on developing a new project(witch turned out to be ALIS).
During that time, I had a dinner with our CEO Yasu. He was also into crypto currency and strongly believed in its potential. We talked about the possibilities of blockchain and crypto currency. In the end, we decided to start the ALIS project with our CMO Mizusawa.
I’d like to share what I think are some of future possibilities of technology.
Bitcoin and blockchain technology
I had learned about Bitcoin in 2012. Honesty, it didn’t pigue my interest atthat time.
However it continued to create actual value. How could it have value? I become a little bit interested.
When I understood the system of Bitcoin and blockchain, I was excited and felt that IT WILL RISE and HAVE HUGE POTENTIAL as well!
Following this epiphany, I exchanged almost all of my money to Bitcoin and started learning blockchain technology.
Today, the crypto currency situation is very exciting. The next technology of the blockchain is growing very quickly, such as Ethereum.
For example, we raised around $4M(USD) during our ICO. I think that we could not have gotten such a big opportunity without the smart contract technology on Ethereum.
ICO is a true innovation. However, in the next few years, I think similar things will happen, over and over again. I think it is a very exciting time.
The ALIS project will try hard to make interesting products people have never seen before.

ALIS - Design Concept
Hello, everyone…Usagi here!
In this update, as we explore important ALIS design concepts, I would like to share the thought process behind the birth and development of the ALIS design, which is intended to be an interconnected and robust framework, viable not only in the present climate, but over the long term as a highly relevant information platform of user interconnectedness and engagement.
As you all may know, ALIS places a very high priority on UX (User Experience). While the intricate details of UXD (User Experience Design) will not be discussed here, as we explore the basic framework of the ALIS design, important concepts such as structure, requirements, and strategy will be discussed.
With that taken care of, let’s first talk strategy!
What type of people are we aiming to engage?1st persona
Lets take, for example, a Mr. “Hajime Takeda.” It’s important that new users like Hajime don’t get discouraged and give up easily. To successfully establish new usership, folks like Hajime need to feel confident. For example, “I want to write articles for ALIS,” “If I were on ALIS I could be successful” and “That was fun! I gotta do this again!” are all attitudes we should seek to engender in new users.
However, since it is important for ALIS to provide high-quality, unique content from the outset, we are also going to talk about another persona, “Nishimura Kenichi” (“Ken”).2nd persona
Ken is an experienced blogger who already has a well-honed craft and makes enough money to support himself via his writing. His work provides ALIS two invaluable services. Namely, supporting the platform with high-quality content and — equally as important — supporting new users such as the aforementioned rookie Hajime. Seasoned writers like Ken provide an invaluable example for new users. Through giving advice, networking, and guiding new users into their plan for growth on the platform, users like Ken are what keep users like Hajime around for the long haul.

How will new users find out about ALIS? How will we keep them actively engaged?Writer
After a new writer hears about ALIS, and is inspired to try their hand at writing some articles, user engagement and activity come into play. When writers receive myriad and sufficient feedback and engagement from the community, a cycle is set into place. Via this feedback from other writers and users, a cyclic flow begins. More ideas for articles are generated, and the desire to contribute to the ALIS platform increases, resulting in ever more feedback and engagement. Users become emotionally involved, and invested in the platform with feeling, as relationships are forged and blogs and articles become more and more serialized in nature as a result of return posting.Contents Miner
Content miners, even if they are not bloggers themselves, help clear the way for the highest quality articles, ensuring that the flow of information and engagement remains conducive to stable and steady growth for the platform.
Tone & Manner
What types of color schemes do our target audience prefer? We should first discuss the color schemes popular in current social media.
To select an effective color scheme for ALIS, we zeroed in on which colors were preferred by our target usership based on existing, established social media and popular companies. We found that our target persona prefers words like “refreshing,” “modern,” “innovative,” and “smart” (see figure above). When we convert the above figure to a color scheme, it becomes as follows.
A cool color scheme seems to work more effectively when combined with colors like navy, or a mix of white and gray. When applied to the various, established social media groups this target persona already prefers, the effect can be seen as follows.
We chose the ALIS color scheme after carefully considering these factors, and narrowing down the options the a few optimal schemes.
Metephor & Philosophy
If we wish to symbolize the essence of ALIS, one might say it is a platform that is “sharp” and “warm,” meaning refined and conducive to attracting high-quality, well-written and relatable content from various authors. In essence, ALIS is simply a robust and innovative framework content creators can utilize, and not an overtly “promotional” platform, in and of itself.
So, what kind of page do we want ALIS to look like, ultimately?
Before creating the information design of ALIS, we discussed and compared the designs of other social media such as Medium, Note, and Steemit. By way of this study and analysis, we arrived at our consensus for what we consider to be the most optimal information design.
For example, we have eliminated what may currently be unnecessary functions, and are planning to make the design as simple as possible in view of facilitating future developments in the beta version. Though simple in design, we have established a robust and solid foundation and framework, which can easily be built upon in the future, and revised, without having to start from zero each time a redesign or revision may be called for.

Closed Beta Public Launch Event and Future Strategy PresentationSee the video of the main presentation here
On Monday, April 23, 2018, we held a closed beta version public launch event. With about 400 community members and media participating, the venue was lively and full of enthusiasm. We announced our future strategies and plans and answered many questions about the ALIS token and its practical usage.
Roadmap for Implementation of the ALIS Vision
At the event, CEO Masahiro Yasu discussed the basic roadmap for the implementation and realization of the ALIS vision.
- Thank you all for gathering here today. I would like to talk about the future of ALIS, and how we will realize our vision.
- The vision of ALIS is to “make human connection more efficient through the visualization of trust“.
- I believe that social capital is the capital of the future, and that this is where attention in the world will focus. People are told that they have three types of capital: money, self, and social relations capital, but until now money has been the clear focus as far as a standard goes. However, distortion occurs in many places under this standard.
- We are committed to creating a way to visualize human trust, and we want to accelerate this paradigm shift by making a more connected world even for those generations yet to come. In addition, we have made great progress in realizing our vision. That is to endeavor to realize “co-creation of a service with the community using a token economy” which is a “new business development method”. Specifically, there are two points. The first point is that the value of the ecosystem and the reward are connected, and the reward is paid to the individual who provides value. The second point is to establish a mechanism by which the economy of the ecosystem autonomously flows.
- I am convinced that this endeavor will greatly change how business development has been done up until now. According to the rules of the traditional corporations, it is difficult for all stakeholders to be unified in purpose and in goal, pursuing the same values, because the goal and focus of the company is placed almost solely upon the interests of the shareholders. However, in a successfully established token economy, I think that it is possible to shift the focus and value to a community-centric model. We believe that the value we could not pursue in the past world can be pursued in the new paradigm of the token economy. In fact, I feel the excitement surrounding the virtual currency community at present, including the ALIS community, is evidence of this.
- Let me explain what kind of roadmap this vision and challenge will utilize. The biggest, current STEP, we have here on this slide, but there is much room within STEP 2 and onward, with much yet undecided, and ample space for opportunity, development, and improvement. So today, I will break down STEP 1 for you in detail, discussing the product release, and the closed Beta test of our platform.
ALIS Update - Closed beta version usage report

Hey everybody! It has been about one month since the 23rd of April, the day we released the closed β version of our platform. It goes without saying that this has been an important time for the platform, which is all thanks to everybody using the platform and the data we have been able to collect thanks to this. We will present a large part of said data in this article. But before doing so, we would like to ﬁrst thank you all for your continuous support, feedback and trust.
From today onward, we will be regularly sharing more in-depth information about what we are doing in order to improve the platform. In today’s article, the ﬁrst in this series, we will present to you a part of our data analysis.
Closed β scope
The closed β version of the platform has been designed only to be able to test a speciﬁc hypothesis. If we think of the platform we are aiming to build to be level 100, the current product is somewhere around a level 2 or 3.Trying to ﬁll a leaking bucket is a waste of time.
The thing we are focusing on ﬁrst of all is the closed β user retention rate. In other words, are people actually using the platform more than just once or twice before abandoning it? The reason for this is very simple: the ALIS platform is powered by its users, but if the users for some reason seem uninclined to use the platform more than just once or twice, this means it is not able to provide anything of value to new users.
With that being said, we will now share the results of the analysis of the ﬁrst month after the launch of the closed β version, after which we will announce what we will be working on for the coming period.

In Figure 1, we see a comparison of the weekly retention rate of ALIS and other products. For now, ALIS’s retention rate has proven to be 4 times higher than that of smartphone applications, which have been claimed to be used more than web browsers. We were of course pleasantly surprised by this fact, but what is arguably even more surprising is the very high retention rate of the ﬁrst week.Figure 2: The retention rate of the ﬁrst week of smartphone apps per category. The ﬁgure above shows the 7 day retention rate of smartphone apps of different categories. While apps in every single category on average lose between 80% and 90% of their users one week after downloading, ALIS, on the other hand, only lost 40% of its users after one week of registration.
*1 The data to which we compare our own data to is the retention rate of Android applications in 2016, published by Adjust. We have chosen this data as, while the numbers might not be a 100% exact, it is a useful representation of an overall trend, and presents an especially formidable challenge to ALIS: apps have a higher retention rate than web browsers; In this way, we have chosen data which errs on the side of caution, with which to examine and evaluate ALIS.
How did the Mikka-Bōzu* Blogger enjoy ALIS?

As explained above, we have learned that the retention rate of the closed β version is very high. However, this alone does not sufﬁce. Next to numbers, we have to look more in depth to how the platform is actually used. For now, we have focused on trying to look for signs that show that the Mikka-Bōzu Bloggers (people who tried writing blogs before but quit) were inclined to keep using the ALIS, where they had previously given up on other platforms.
At the time of the designing stage, we have created two personas, who we have called Hajime and Ken. The former is a Mikka-Bōzu Blogger and Ken is a seasoned blogger.

The data on the persona division was acquired through a questionnaire ﬁlled in by the users upon registering. One of the questions in the questionnaire was: “Are you currently writing a blog?”. We have labeled people who answered “I have never written a blog.”, “I have set up a blog, but have never actually written an article.” and “I have written a blog, but am not anymore, currently” as Hajime. We have labeled people who answered “I am currently writing a blog” as Ken.Figure 3: The horizontal line was set based on the average monthly articles written by Kens
Figure 3 shows the % of users of both personas wrote more than the average amount of articles per month written by Ken (seasoned blogger). The y axis represents the two personas and the x-axis represents the threshold of an average of 7.7 articles per month written by Kens.
The reason for setting the threshold at 7.7 articles is because in order to not end up with a half-baked conclusion, we tried to be as strict as possible regarding this matter. In other words, instead of looking simply to see if the users labeled as Hajime wrote multiple articles every day or every week, we believe a better indicator is to compare their data to that of the seasoned bloggers.
The data shows that, 26% of the users labeled as Hajime, who ended up not continuing with their previous blog, exceeded the threshold of 7.7 articles, meaning they write more articles than the average seasoned blogger. Also meaning they did not just simply write multiple articles in one month.Percentage of article creators in the media
Although the data is a little dated (2009), according to a survey done by the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, only 2% o people using blog media are people who continuously write blogs. In other words, 98% of the people do not consequently produce information on current Japanese blog media platforms.
Possible reason for ALIS’ high retention rate
As for the reason why ALIS has been able to maintain such a high retention rate, we think this might have to do with that, compared to existing services; it is easier for users to acquire some form of feedback on their published articles and establish relationships with other users through the ALIS platform.
Generally speaking, on existing platforms, it is relatively difﬁcult for a person who just started a blog to get any form of feedback or any form of compensation. On these platforms, this is only possible after writing multiple articles, paying attention to SEO, and also, relying on access through other media outlets.
We believe that with regards to the high retention rate, this is an important difference between ALIS and other platforms. The token system of the platform and the logic behind it motivates users to read and rate articles, which results in an environment where even people who have just published their ﬁrst article are also able to gain some form of feedback.
As far as this phenomenon goes, at the current stage we would like to wait on sharing any speciﬁcs, but in analyzing the personal connections between users on the platform, we were able to conclude the chances our assumption is correct are relatively high. We will share more on this once we have gathered more data.
A summary of what we have learned after one month of the closed β release.
- The retention rate of the ALIS platform is 4 times higher than that of smartphone applications, which are said to be more used than regular internet browsers
- Where with regular smartphone apps, 80%~90% of the users abandon an app within a week, only 40% of the users left ALIS within a week
- 25% of the Mikka Bōzu Bloggers exceeded the threshold of 7.7 articles, the average amount of articles published monthly by seasoned bloggers. This is 12.5 times more than the comparable rates on existing Japanese blog platforms, which enables us to assume we can reach that many more potential users
- We have argued that a reason for this might be because people on ALIS are able to receive feedback and rewards much easier and earlier than on existing platforms

Apart from these steps we will of course also be working on the logic that determines the trustworthiness of articles, and a solution for the current trend where the platform tends to lean to articles about speciﬁc coins. And, we are also planning to work on effective platform evaluation protocols.
